Investors Who Gave Groupon, Like, A Billion Dollars Slip Closer To, Like, Breaking Even

andrew-mason-groupon1Remember when Groupon raised, like, a billion dollars? We certainly do. Well, it looks like Groupon's slide over the past month is bringing its last round of venture investors ever closer to breaking even. The stock has rebounded slightly this morning to $11.49, but the number to watch is $7.90. That's effectively what several top-tier Silicon Valley venture firms including Kleiner Perkins, Greylock and Andreessen Horowitz paid per share when they invested $946 million in Groupon between December 2010 and January 2011. At that point, they bought Series G Preferred Shares for $31.59 each. These later converted into four shares of common stock on October 31 of last year, just a few days before Groupon's initial public offering on November 4.

Azealia Banks Blasts T.I. On Twitter After Radio Show Comments

Young MC calls Tip a 'snitch' after he talked to Chicago morning show about her beef with Iggy Azalea.

T.I. has been involved in his fair share of rap beef. From Lil' Flip to Ludacris to Shawty Lo, Tip has held his own against some pretty serious dudes, but when it comes to the attacks from rookie female MC Azealia Banks, the Trouble Man wants no part of it.

Banks took exception when T.I.'s new artist Iggy Azalea landed the 2012XXL Freshman cover earlier this year. The Harlem rapper had no problem lashing out at Iggy via Twitter, and when Tip defended his new protégé on DJ Drama's radio in March, Banks fired shots at the King too.

"[Banks] wasn't the only one who felt funny about it. It was a trending topic people felt so funny about it," Iggy told MTV News earlier this month about her inclusion on the Freshman list.

Iggy wasn't chosen to be on XXL's coveted cover by the staff outright, instead she won a people's choice vote held on the magazine's website. The Australian-born rapper beat out 49 other rookie MCs to earn her spot along other notables like French Montana, MGK and Future. "Out of all those people, I had the most fans, it's not my fault. You should've voted for who you wanted because everybody else did and not to be rude, it was me."

T.I., however, hasn't been so diplomatic in his response. "The fact that she's speaking up on me and mine, I didn't even see it," he said about Banks when he appeared on the "Tony Sculfield and the Morning Riot" radio show in Chicago on Monday morning (April 23). "That's a bitch sh--, I'ma man. You ain't got no business addressing me. Get your man to address me, if you got a man, get him to address me and he and I can speak on it."

It doesn't seem like Banks, whose video for her single "212" is fast approaching 12 million views on YouTube, has taken heed. "@tip T.i .... Please shut the f--- up about this. Like seriously quit it," she tweeted hours after the Grand Hustle CEO's interview aired.

Banks continued with a full-on Twitter rant. "@tip funny how you have plenty of time to address me but have nothing to say to the dudes who been calling u at as a snitch forever," she wrote. "@tip it's dead... The streets already know what kind of dude you are. Stop making yourself look softer by dragging this out."

She then proceeded to delete all of T.I.'s songs from her iTunes. "LMFAOO every time I delete a t.i. song from my iPad I imagine him dying in some bloody horror film like being eaten by a zombie," she wrote.

Were Banks' comments out of line? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Study shows more people watch TV on tablets than computers, still nothing on

Is your notebook still your preferred second TV? Well, it seems you're now in the minority. The hip new way of consuming the drug of the nation -- after the 'ole tube itself -- is on a tablet, according to a recent Viacom study. Over 2,500 people were polled nationwide, and the results show a shift away from computers and smartphones to slates. Tabs made up 15 percent of full-length TV show viewings, with the increase of streaming services and companion apps being cited as contributing factors to the trend. We don't know what the fuss is about, we watch all our telly on a tablet.

Antonio Silva to face Cain Velasquez at UFC 146

When Frank Mir was given a title shot at UFC 146 in place of Alistair Overeem, several dominoes started to fall in the UFC heavyweight division. Mir was supposed to face Cain Velasquez in Las Vegas on May 26. Since he's fighting Junior dos Santos, Velasquez will face Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, who will be making his UFC debut after a career in Strikeforce and Elite XC. Roy Nelson, who was supposed to fight Silva, is now opponent-less, but is expected to remain on the card.

Got that?

As it stands now, UFC 146 still has an all-heavyweight main card, but the UFC has to scramble to find an opponent for Nelson for a bout that is just 34 days away. Here are all the main card bouts:

Junior Dos Santos vs. Frank Mir
Antonio Silva vs. Cain Velasquez
Roy Nelson vs. TBA
Shane Del Rosario vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve

Do you plan on buying this card? Have the changes in bouts made you more or less likely to see it? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Facebook Shareholders: What Do You Do After You Make a Zillion Dollars

02-Ferrari-250-Testa-RossaIn the dot-com boom I lost $15 million cash. Yes, I am an idiot. You know what happens when you lose that kind of cash? When you go to zero? You lose your libido. You don't want to have sex ever again. And even Viagra won't help. I lost my house. I lost my family. I lost all my fake friends. I was sick all the time. When I passed people on the street who were laughing I was definitely sure they were laughing at me. $15 million cash. One million a week in the summer of 2000. I could've saved lives with that money.Instead every night I would lie on the floor and try to mentally force my body to die. [See, "What It Feels Like to Be Rich"] So now I will save some lives. You Facebook shareholders are about to make a lot of money. One friend of mine made one of the most common features on Facebook we use every day. He's going to make $15 million. So my message is to him but the rest of you can listen in on the conversation.

Unhealthy Dieting ? Useful Facts You May Not Know

A healthy diet is an integral part of any weight loss program. Generally, a balanced diet composed of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish and lean meat will give an individual the necessary energy to perform the daily activities and function at his most optimum level. More than this, well-planned meals protect against diseases. It also aids in tissue and muscle repair to enable an individual to rapidly recover from illnesses.

But society has put such importance on losing weight that desperate souls go on crash diets just to stay thin. There is such a pressure to maintain a 36-24-36 figure for most girls that attaining it has become a worldwide obsession. This has led to all sorts of eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and all kinds of health issues that, in severe instances, culminate in death.

Dieting becomes unhealthy when it is done solely to focus on losing weight and not for overall body fitness. Perspective matters a lot here, and it is unfortunately, what is lacking in those who use diet to keep the fat off. When individuals look at dieting as part of an overall fitness plan to stay healthy physically, psychologically and emotionally, they will choose foods from all sources and keep them in moderate proportions because they know it is good for their bodies. They know that spreading out their meals evenly throughout the day and drinking sufficient amounts of water will keep their metabolism running, causing them to burn fat. They couple healthy diet with exercise because they know that aside from burning the fat, exercise keeps the blood oxygenated which is crucial to disease prevention. They know that exercise keeps blood pressure and blood sugar at stable levels.

On the other hand, those who see dieting as only a means to losing weight, will resort to unhealthy dieting practices that wreck havoc on their body systems. They go on a crash diet that literally starves their body of the most basic nutrients it needs in order to function. Desperate girls skip breakfast, have a cracker for lunch and a meal replacement bar for dinner in the hope of registering a 24 when they measure waistline. They rely on diet pills to burn the fat away. They don?t factor in exercise (primarily because they don?t have the energy to do it) and walk like half-dead zombies as they literally waste their muscles away because of their detrimental and when left unchecked, fatal dieting practices.

Educating individuals about the pitfalls of crash diets and other unhealthy dieting practices that only serve to harm rather than help is an integral part of any overall health program. People, especially those who are desperate to lose the flab, must be made to understand that eating is not a sin. What is sinful is eating in excess. Gluttony has placed those fats there and only by a complete fitness program that includes proper diet, exercise and healthy lifestyle practices can anyone ever hope to remove them there. Only when individuals hold this perspective can unhealthy dieting habits be corrected.

EU supports Novartis MS pill with stronger warning

LONDON (Reuters) - European regulators have endorsed the continued use of Novartis AG's multiple sclerosis pill Gilenya, one of the Swiss firm's top new drug hopes, but said on Friday the drug needed to carry stronger warnings on heart risks.

Novartis said the decision meant the drug remained on-track to be a "blockbuster" - one with annual sales above $1 billion.

Prospects for Gilenya, the first multiple sclerosis (MS) pill of its kind, have been clouded by reports of its association with serious heart problems.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA), which had initially aimed to give an update on Gilenya last month, said doctors should not prescribe it to patients with a history of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease or those on heart-rate lowering medication.

If treatment with Gilenya was considered necessary in these patients, however, their heart activity should be monitored at least overnight following the first dose of the drug, it said.

All patients getting the drug should have an electrocardiogram (ECG) and a blood pressure measurement prior to the first dose and after a six-hour initial period, during which continuous ECG monitoring is recommended.

A committee of EMA experts said the possible risk of heart problems could be limited by these stronger warnings.

"With these risk-minimization measures in place, the committee concludes that the benefits of Gilenya continue to outweigh the risks," the agency said in a statement.

David Epstein, head of Novartis Pharmaceuticals, said he welcomed EMA's confirmation of Gilenya's positive benefit-risk profile "which also supports our continued belief of the blockbuster potential of Gilenya".

WORST CASE AVOIDED

Analysts said there would be relief that the drug had not been pulled off the market but safety concerns would linger.

Martin Voegtli at Kepler Capital Markets said the strengthened warnings against prescribing in patients with cardiovascular risk factors would restrict the patient population and hit sales forecasts.

But Tim Race of Deutsche Bank viewed the EMA verdict more positively, since it ruled out the worse-case scenarios of either product removal or overnight monitoring for all patients.

Shares in Novartis were 0.6 percent higher at 1000 GMT, broadly in line with the European drugs sector.

Gilenya is still seen by analysts as a big seller, with annual sales of $1.7 billion by 2015, according to consensus forecasts collected by Thomson Reuters Pharma. But that is down on the $2.2 billion forecast in late 2011, due to safety fears.

In recent months, doctors have grown more cautious about the drug following reports of heart problems in some patients and the death of one person in the United States within 24 hours of starting treatment.

Those cases prompted the EMA to start its review in January, when it first advised doctors to continuously monitor patients for six hours after giving them a first dose. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is also looking into the drug.

Gilenya represents a significant change in MS treatment, since existing medicines like beta interferons and Elan and Biogen Idec's Tysabri must be injected.

Rival oral MS treatments in development include BG-12 from Biogen, teriflunomide from Sanofi and laquinimod from Teva.

Taylor Swift to Portray Joni Mitchell in Biopic?

Taylor Swift is under consideration for another major movie role.

After losing out on the character of Eponine in a big screen version of Les Miserables, Variety now reports that Swift may portray music legend Joni Mitchell in an upcoming biopic.

Swift, Taylor

The film is being developed by Sony Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures' and would be an adaptation of Sheila Weller's book "Girls Like Us." The role would also mark Swift's first dramatic turn, as she recently voiced a character in The Lorax and appeared in Valentine's Day.

The movie will follow around the careers of Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King, with Alison Pill rumored for the latter artist.

Google's ex-CEO gets $101M pay package in new job

(AP) ? Shifting from Google's CEO to executive chairman proved to be lucrative career move for Eric Schmidt.

Google Inc. awarded Schmidt a compensation package valued at $101 million last year. The amount disclosed in a regulatory filing is 322 times higher than the $313,219 package that Schmidt received in 2010 during his final full year as the Internet search leader's CEO.

Schmidt ended a decade-long stint as Google's CEO last April and turned over the job to Google co-founder Larry Page.

Shortly before the change in command, Google gave Schmidt stock and stock options awards valued at nearly $94 million. The rest of Schmidt's compensation consisted of a $937,500 salary, $6 million bonus and perks worth nearly $264,000.

Page received a $1 salary as CEO.

Both Page and Schmidt are multibillionaires.

Should Gaming News Report on Anders Behring Breivik ...

On July 22, 2011, Anders Behrig Breivik killed 77 people in a horrific tragedy in Norway.??Within a day, game-centric journalism sites and blogs began covering stories about the killer because Breivik wrote a 1500 page manifesto that included recommendations on using Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as training for an inevitable war with Islam.??He also discussed using an obsession with World of Warcraft as a cover ? saying you couldn?t answer your phone because ?you were busy raiding? isn?t likely to invite any questions.???If you?re planning requires you to travel, say that you are visiting one of your WoW friends,? Breivik writes, ?or better yet, a girl from your ?guild? (who lives in another country). No further questions will be raised if you present these arguments.?

Violent events have been linked to videogames countless times in the mainstream media, usually to the dismay of gaming journalists.??While some have strong connections, such as Breivik explicitly saying he used Modern Warfare 2 to train, others have much more tenuous connections, like when the Denver Post claimed the Columbine school shooting was caused by parents revoking the shooters? videogame rights.

When video games are blamed for such events as a 19-year-old burning down a synagogue because he was ?taken over by these games that young people play now ? lots of violence, lots of meanness,? it is natural for people who love videogames to want to respond, especially those who write about games for a living.??But maybe they shouldn?t respond at all.

The more videogame outlets that report on Breivik?s World of Warcraft character, or Mark Bradford throttling a boy who killed his character in Call of Duty, the more prevalent the idea will be that videogaming is related to violence.??The more loudly the gaming community denies that there is a connection, the more inculcated that connection becomes in the media at large, and the wider the story grows.

Further, most videogame journalism isn?t reporting on violent events themselves, but rather, responding (often defensively) to mainstream media coverage finding a link between violence and videogames.??This makes the community seem self-protective and downright angry to most outsiders.??Some would even argue that it?s simply beyond the prevue of videogame journalism to report these incidents and that journalists should concentrate on predicting Gabe Newell?s next move, not analyzing crime.

On the other hand, gaming outlets are more able to address these stories ? writers who cover videogames actually understand what it means to be a ?Justicar? in World of Warcraft, as well as what light that may shed on Breviek?s personality.??And a reporter who has actually been in a WoW guild can certainly explain Breviek?s guild-mates reactions on a forum with more nuance than a reporter who?s never picked up the game in the first place.

So what?s videogame journalism supposed to do???I?m including this post as part of the problem and not naming names elsewhere (because you know who you are). Should we not say anything and simply concentrate on whether a new game is good or not???Or is gaming journalism?s only recourse to react to what is seen as an increasingly hostile mainstream media???Is the best defense saying nothing at all?

Niche journalism, while often lacking a wider perspective, does bring something unique to the great sea of media we all consume everyday ? insider perspective.? With expertise comes responsibility, including the burden of representing entire communities, whether intentionally or not.
