Verizon selling Galaxy Nexus Thursday for $299

Verizon Wireless / Samsung Mobile

By Wilson Rothman

The date many phone nuts have been waiting for is Thursday, December 15. Yes, tomorrow. That's when Verizon Wireless will (finally) offer the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?? the first Googlephone with Android 4.0, aka?Ice Cream Sandwich.

We've had an international version of the phone, which we've enjoyed, but it doesn't have the high-speed 4G LTE connection, offering 5 to 12 megabits per second download speeds, that this U.S.-targeted Verizon version has. It also has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 4.65-in. 720p high-def Super AMOLED display, and a slender design that's less than 0.4 inches in thickness.

Verizon has an interesting deal available to new customers of its 4G service. If you sign up for a 4G data plan, you can get double the data for the same fee: Signing up for the 2GB $30 plan means you'll get 4GB. It applies only to customers who are getting a new contract on a 4G phone, so it doesn't apply to iPhone owners (because they're on 3G), and it doesn't apply to anybody who is already under contract with a 4G phone from Verizon, unless they're buying a second one.

As expected, the Galaxy Nexus will sell for $299.99 with a 2-year contract. There will soon be more information on the phone at this Verizon Web page. In the meantime, watch this helpful video about Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:

The newest Android OS is the best thing to happen to that platform since it started to beat the iPhone in global marketshare. Here are the features that make this frozen treat hot ? and the lucky phones that will first get the update.
